Match Report by Tony Middleton
HORNCHURCH 0 ENFIELD TOWN 5
Hornchurch fielded a young side against an Enfield Town team that took full advantage of the home side’s lack of experience to run out comfortable winners. Enfield took the lead in the 13th minute when BILLY HEALEY bundled the ball over the line after Michael Bowditch has touched a right wing cross against the bar. Hornchurch had a chance to level when Tobi Amokeoko raced clear down the middle. But keeper Jason Willis ran out to make a spectacular save. The rest of the half was largely spent in midfield, though Urchins had another chance to level when Michael Baggs played Amokeoko through once again, and the same scenario resulted. Willis rushed out, made another excellent save, and the ball ran back to Amokeodo whose shot from a narrow angle was again well saved by Willis.

The second half was dominated by Enfield, who went ahead when Willis had saved a shot from Baggs, and played the ball deep out onto the left where LUKE DAVID ran through the defence to score. Four minutes later LUKE DAVID scored again, when a free kick bobbled around in the area and he neatly touched the ball home. RYAN HUGHES made it four when he converted a cross from the left. Urchins were left a player short after a very bad tackle (that is the polite version), right in front of the referee, on Jamie Salmon, who had just come onto the field as substitute. Jamie was carried off, and the referee, after a long period of self deliberation, weakly waved a yellow card at the offender. Just what the referee thought he was doing next only he knows, for he walked the length of the touchline, walked towards the Enfield bench, turned back and eventually sent Ron Hanley off. Urchins were then further reduced to nine players and whilst they were two short, RYAN HUGHES ran in a fifth goal. Urchins rallied in the last ten minutes, with Josh Steel twice sending over good crosses, neither of which could be converted.
