Match Report by Tony Middleton
HORNCHURCH 0 MALDON 4
Maldon took full advantage of a young and inexperienced Hornchurch side to secure a comfortable three points. They began confidently and could have taken a first minute lead, had not Day lifted his shot over the bar when well placed. Michael Bowditch made a good save after Johnson had weaved his way in from the left, but Maldon scored on 16 minutes when AKAY BAGDAS came in unmarked to head home a good centre from the left wing. With most of the Hornchurch attacking moves breaking down well before the penalty area, Maldon went further ahead shortly before the interval when DANNY JOHNSON gained the ball midway inside the home half, ran past two defenders who got in each others way, and stroked the ball home.

There was wild excitement at half time when Max announced that hot and cold coffee was replacing the usual fare of hot and cold teas, and all the pies sold out within seconds of going on sale.

The second half started badly for Urchins when a high centre from the left was headed into his own net by Jamie Southon, and it got worse when there was a lengthy stoppage when Jake Dallison was injured, whilst Davey O’Keefe also needed treatment at the same time when he was hit at point blank range with the ball. Horncburch came more into the game, thanks mainly to the incredibly long throws from Steve Pashley and some good moves involving Jon Green and James Stuart-Evans, but Maldon scored again following a corner which Michael Bowditch was unable to gather and JEROME INGRAM volleyed the ball hard into the net.
